Mémoire evolved from a collaborative project with wood sculptor Andreas Krätschmer and French language poet Paul Ruban inspired by a Norway maple, itself sick and solitary, that had to be cut down in Andreas’ backyard.

The works explore this tree’s life in relation to its urban habitat, the passage of time it has witnessed, from one season and one year to the next, the richness of its interior life, its sensitivity and the violence it experienced through its death.

Inks were made from its leaves and bark and charcoal from its branches.
