I think of the word field as signifying both a meadow-like expanse of grassland and wildflower habitat as well as an energetic space. Like quiet winter fields with the silhouetted lines of wildflowers, the painting explores the simultaneity of dormancy and potentiality. The dried stock of summer’s blooms are filled with seed heads to be distributed by the wind and feed for birds. Little dots scattered across the painting, these seed-stars reflect the continuum of cycles.
