Natural Dyes 101 at Shed, PEC

This workshop offers an introduction to natural dye processes including mordanting, preparing plant-based dye vats, and post-mordanting. Participants will learn the fundamental principles of working with natural dyes and will create a dye reference booklet with a range of fibres including, cotton, silk and linen as well as a sample Shed’s very own alpaca. Additionally participants will each hand dye a cotton tote. We’ll explore foraging for colour and collect plant stuff for our dye vats from around the farm. Bring your curiosity and gather in good company. All materials provided.
