Inspired by the variety of grey tone patterns in the sand on the shores of Lake Ontario. Taking a cue directly from these elements, I adapted the traditional Japanese suminagashi technique where a drawing is created by working with sumi ink floating on water. I liked the idea of working with the combined elements of water and fire, where sumi ink, a by-product of fire, is made of its soot residue. Each work is hand cut.
